08/12/2010 - Milwaukee, WI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Arizona tied a major league record by homering in four straight at-bats off Milwaukee's Dave Bush in the fourth inning, on the way to a 8-2 victory at Miller Park.
Adam LaRoche, Miguel Montero, Mark Reynolds and Stephen Drew all went deep with one out during the four-run frame. The homers came in a span of 10 pitches as Bush became the third big league pitcher to allow four consecutive homers.
The others are Chase Wright of the New York Yankees in the third inning against Boston on April 22, 2007, and Paul Foytack of the Los Angeles Angels on July 31, 1963, in the sixth inning of the second game of a doubleheader against Cleveland.
Bush also tied a major league record for most homers allowed in an inning.
Daniel Hudson (3-0) had a career-high nine strikeouts over seven innings. and won his third straight start since being traded from the White Sox last month. The right-hander, who allowed seven hits and two runs, added a three- run double in the sixth inning.
Bush (5-10) was tagged for eight hits and seven runs over 5 1/3 innings, losing for the fourth time in his last five decisions.
The Diamondbacks won for the sixth time in seven games, while the Brewers are in danger of being swept in the four-game series.
Prince Fielder and Casey McGehee hit back-to-back homers to start the bottom of the second inning to account for Milwaukee's runs.
LaRoche homered to right field on a 3-2 pitch with one out in the fourth. Montero belted a ball to the second deck in right field and then Reynolds connected off the facing of the second deck in left-center. Drew was next and he lined a 1-0 offering over the wall in right to give Arizona a 4-2 lead.
The Drew brothers (J.D. and Stephen) have been involved in three of the seven times a team has hit 4 consecutive homers.
"It was pretty wild. I was like, 'what am I supposed to do now?' It was pretty special," Drew said. "It was one of those things you don't see too often. It was fun. My brother was a part of two of them, so now he's only one-up on me."
Before Wednesday, Bush hadn't allowed a homer in three straight games.
It's the seventh time in major league history a team has hit four consecutive home runs in the same inning. The four straight HRs are the first time it's occurred in Arizona history.
"I thought Hudson acquitted himself well after the second inning," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. "Fielder and McGehee are good hitters. We're getting comfortable sticking to the plan."
Bush walked Montero and Drew in the sixth before hitting Gerardo Parra with a pitch. Todd Coffey entered with one out, but Hudson doubled to center to clear the bases. After two more walks, Justin Upton's fielder's choice plated Hudson for the game's final run.
Milwaukee had its chances to come back. It put men on second and third with one out in the seventh, but couldn't capitalize. It loaded the bases the following frame, but Jordan Norberto fanned pinch-hitter Ryan Braun to end the inning.
"In the fourth inning with four home runs in a row, Bush was dislocating his pitches," Brewers manager Ken Macha said. "He went right down the middle with them. The sixth inning kind of opened the game up."

JUPITER, Fla. -- The Foorida Marlins are preparing for the likelihood that right-hander
Josh Johnson won't be ready when the season starts April 2.
Grapefruit League action starts Wednesday, but Johnson, penciled in as the No. 2 starter, hasn't even thrown off a mound at full speed since September. He's experienced some soreness in his right forearm.
MySportsbook.com have the Marlins listed with baseball betting lines at +800 to win the NL East this season .
''You guys know the math. If he's not on the hill then he becomes an opening day roster issue,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said Saturday. ''We're borderline now.''
Johnson, who finished 12-7 with a 3.10 ERA in 2007, was supposed to throw on flat ground Saturday. That was canceled when he woke up with pain.
He played catch on Wednesday with no pain but felt discomfort in a throwing session on Thursday. He's expected to try again Sunday.
''Like we always said from the very beginning, we're going to take it easy on him,'' Gonzalez said. ''He didn't feel right, so we shut him down. We're going to take it back to step one and see where we're at.''
Among the candidates to take Johnson's spot in the rotation are left-hander Chris George and right-handers Yusmeiro Petit and Jose Garcia.
Right-hander Sergio Mitre, who missed most of last season with arm and shoulder problems, also is behind.
With Johnson's status doubtful, Gonzalez said right-hander Ricky Nolasco will stay in the rotation and no longer will be considered a candidate for closer.
